AIM-AHEAD Data Science Training Core Training Practicum (PRIME)

Purpose

The AIM-AHEAD Data Science Training Core Training Practicum (PRIME) is an NIH-funded training program that was established to develop skills in artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) applications on health disparities engaging learners who are members of the under-resourced communities and institutions.

Participants

Over a 6-month (graduate) or 8-month (undergraduate) program, trainees completed intensive AI/ML coursework paired with mentoring. Trainees were connected with mentors who are leading experts in related fields to provide mentorship guidance and support throughout their learning journey.

Impact

PRIME Training Practicum reinforced trainees' educational experience and further elevated the importance of health technology. At the end of the training program, Cohort 1 trainees presented a group poster project highlighting their learnings from participating in PRIME. Select trainees then completed an individual extended abstract project which detailed the AI/ML applications related to their research to present at the Annual AIM AHEAD meeting.

Program Outcomes

PRIME Program outcomes and trainee achievements are presented below informing on the impact of the AIM-AHEAD Data Science Training Core Training Practicum on targeted under-resourced communities.
