Purpose
The AIM-AHEAD Bridge2AI AI-READI Training Program will increase researcher diversity and expand AI-READI data access through engagement and training, including use of AI/ML in analysis and a train-the-trainer model. It will allow AIM-AHEAD trainees to conduct novel research at the intersection of AI/ML and health disparities with a multi-modal array of data elements from a diverse cohort.
About AIM-AHEAD
Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning Consortium to Advance Health Equity And Researcher Diversity (AIM-AHEAD) is an initiative funded by the National Institutes of Health that is dedicated to enhancing diversity in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML), with emphasis on reducing health disparities and promoting health equity. Led by the AIM-AHEAD Coordinating Center, this initiative has cultivated a diverse nationwide consortium that embraces equity and transparency, aimed at leveraging AI/ML to enhance health outcomes across diverse and under-resourced communities. Through the establishment of strategic partnerships, targeted research programs, and engagement with key stakeholders, AIM-AHEAD continues to bolster participation and foster meaningful involvement within the AI/ML and health equity field.
Participants
To accomplish this objective, a cohort of up to 30 diverse professionals committed to applying AI/ML to benefit underrepresented communities will complete an intensive 9-month program in advanced data analysis developed by Bridge2AI and utilizing the resources of the AI-READI data and AIM-AHEAD’s Data Science Training Core. Completing the training will equip the motivated professional to conduct the in-depth analysis of large datasets essential for cutting-edge biomedical and socioeconomic research.
Impact
Through this training program, the trainee will gain expertise in AI and machine learning (AI/ML) principles, enabling them to craft detailed, feasible research proposals. They will also develop a compelling poster for the AIM-AHEAD Annual Meeting and Bridge2AI Annual Meeting. By the program’s end, trainees will have gained foundational AI/ML knowledge, practical experience with the NIH Bridge2AI AI-READI dataset, and completed a research project that supports their professional growth and career development. This program will enhance their overall research capabilities and support their professional development in the field of AI/ML.
