Purpose
The AIM-AHEAD Program for Artificial Intelligence Readiness (PAIR) was designed to improve AI readiness for under-resourced institutions by leveraging AIM-AHEAD resources to jump-start AI for health equity research and grant writing, and by establishing institutional bonding with AIM-AHEAD via AI/ML Health Equity Research Labs to generate knowledge for AI success.
About AIM-AHEAD
Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning Consortium to Advance Health Equity And Researcher Diversity (AIM-AHEAD) is an initiative funded by the National Institutes of Health that is dedicated to enhancing diversity in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML), with emphasis on reducing health disparities and promoting health equity. Led by the AIM-AHEAD Coordinating Center, this program has cultivated a diverse nationwide consortium that embraces equity and transparency, aimed at leveraging AI/ML to enhance health outcomes across diverse and under-resourced communities. Through the establishment of strategic partnerships, targeted research programs, and engagement with key stakeholders, AIM-AHEAD continues to bolster participation and foster meaningful involvement within the AI/ML and health equity field.

Developed for under-resourced institutions and organizations, PAIR has strengthened foundations for sustainable success in AI/ML health equity research at numerous awardee institutions nationwide.

Impact
Through the implementation of a two-phase funding model, PAIR has connected awardee institutions from across the United States with AIM-AHEAD resources, AI/ML and health equity experts, and grant-writing coaches to help establish AI/ML Health Equity Research Labs which host cross-disciplinary teams for research projects and grant writing.
