Texas A&M University Corpus Christi
Research Priorities & Collaboration
"Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMUCC) is a doctoral degree-granting Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and Minority-Serving Institution located along the Gulf of Mexico. TAMUCC has an enrollment of approximately 50% Hispanic students, with over 40% being first-generation college students. The establishment of an AI/ML lab provides several benefits to TAMUCC as an HSI that will enhance the university's AI/ML research capacities, specifically tailored to address health inequities. By focusing on diverse populations, the AI/ML lab will contribute to a more inclusive and representative research approach, aligning with TAMUCC's mission as an HSI. Moreover, the program will attract diverse talent, fostering an inclusive research environment and solidifying TAMUCC's position as a leader in addressing health disparities through AI/ML research. The AEQUIH project is to establish a robust research and educational lab, focused on the advancement of ML and AI-based methodologies, specifically tailored to facilitate the diagnosis of high-risk mental health issues among youth within the Hispanic community. Aligned with TAMUCC's commitment to "equal opportunity, affirmative action, diversity, and inclusive excellence," our lab will prioritize the hiring of underrepresented and women students." -- TAMUCC 2023
