San Diego State University
Research Priorities & Collaboration
"San Diego State University (SDSU) is a transborder, research-intensive Hispanic-Serving Institution located on Kumeyaay land with decades-long history of serving diverse populations on campus and in our community. Our graduates consistently make up a majority of the health care workers in our region and are key players in driving innovation in the country’s third-largest biotech industry. SDSU is invested in preparing a workforce with the data science knowledge to develop, deploy, and evaluate unbiased artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) tools which are becoming more pervasive in the critical health care decision-making process. In partnership with the AIM-AHEAD PAIR Program, our faculty Dr. Uduak George (MPI), an associate professor of mathematics and Dr. Melody Schiaffino (MPI) an associate professor of health services research are establishing a Cancer Health Equity & AI Research Lab at SDSU. The Cancer Health Equity & AI Research Lab will advance AI in health equity research and provide exceptional talent and resources needed to educate and train underrepresented minority scientists and health professionals that are capable of contributing to the future AI workforce." -- SDSU 2023
