Marymount University

Research Priorities & Collaboration

"Marymount University, an Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) in Arlington, VA, has two main educational focus areas: advancing technology, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and healthcare, including health equity. The intersection of AI and health equity is our focus with the intention to enable ALL our US populations to "age in place", home being their preferred place when facing disability or disease. To do this, we must reduce the cost and improve the availability of home medical care, with a focus on currently under-served populations. We see AI-based technology (including avatars) as a primary interface with the individuals, care-givers, and their health data, with 24 by 7 monitoring of the individual, and triage to the nursing staff only when abnormal signs are recorded. This should greatly reduce the cost of in-home care, minimizing the engagement of nurses, currently a scarce and costly resource." -- MU 2023
