AIM-AHEAD Program for Artificial Intelligence Readiness (PAIR) Cohort 2 Experts & Coaches CFA
The AIM-AHEAD Program for Artificial Intelligence Readiness (PAIR) is recruiting Experts and Grant Writing Coaches for the second cohort of the AIM-AHEAD PAIR Program. This program will engage several teams of researchers from institutions facing challenges in developing research capacities to build an AI for Health Equity Lab within their organization.
Applications will be open from December 18, 2024 - January 27, 2025. All selected Experts and Grant Writing Coaches will be notified by February 17, 2025.
AIM-AHEAD Experts
Eligibility Criteria for AIM-AHEAD Experts:
- Expertise in one of the following areas: AI/ML, Health equity, Statistical analysis, EHR analysis, Clinical research, Social determinants of health.
- Prior mentorship experience.
- Can come from different sectors such as industry, non-profit organizations, healthcare organizations, faith-based institutions, or academic institutions.
Expectations for AIM-AHEAD Experts:
- Experts will dedicate time and effort to guide the PAIR Awardees.
- Experts will facilitate access to expertise to advance research and team building.
- Experts will attend monthly check-in (minimum of 2 hours) with the awardees for research progress and review the awardee's monthly progress report.
- Experts will offer guidance on refining awardee’s research approach and methodologies.
- Experts will conduct 1-2 seminars based on their expertise and awardee needs, which will be made available on AIM-AHEAD Connect platform.
- Experts may act as reviewers for other AIM-AHEAD programs.
- Experts will gather insights into the current progress and challenges of their research team and provide constructive feedback on the content, delivery, and overall effectiveness.
- Experts will participate in the Mock Review Study Section at the end of Phase I of the PAIR program.
- Experts will complete any Mentor Assessments/Surveys requested of the PAIR Program Directors.
- Experts will assist with, reviewing, and providing feedback on posters, abstracts, and grant proposal submissions of assigned awardees.
- Experts will coordinate with cluster faculty leads to assess team progress and provide feedback/evaluations.
- Experts will attend the AIM-AHEAD Conference and any other PAIR events mandated by PAIR leadership. Travel costs will be reimbursed.
AIM-AHEAD Experts will receive a stipend of $10,000 as allowed by their institutional policy.
AIM-AHEAD Grant Writing Coaches (GWCs)
Eligibility Criteria for AIM-AHEAD Grant Writing Coaches:
- Experience in developing grant applications (e.g. NIH) in biomedical, clinical, behavioral social and health disparities.
- Prior Grant Writing Coaching experience.
- Can come from different sectors such as industry, non-profit organizations, healthcare organizations, faith-based institutions, or academic institutions.
Expectations for AIM-AHEAD Grant Writing Coaches:
- GWCs will dedicate time and effort to guide the PAIR awardees.
- GWCs will attend virtual sessions when requested by the Directors.
- GWCs will correspond with your teams weekly via email to track grant writing progress.
- GWCs will attend monthly meetings with your awardee teams (minimum of 2 hours) to guide project development.
- GWCs will review your teams’ grant proposal to be submitted for Pilot Award as part of the awardee’s PAIR program requirements.
- GWCs will provide a review of all PAIR team projects submitted at the end of the program.
- GWCs will participate in the Mock Review Study Section at the end of Phase I of the PAIR program.
- GWCs will complete any Coaching Assessments/Surveys requested of the PAIR Program Directors.

Click the “Apply to become an AIM-AHEAD PAIR Expert or Grant Writing Coach” button to apply to be an Expert or Grant Writing Coach.
- You have now completed your application to be an Expert or Grant Writing Coach for an AIM-AHEAD PAIR Program. If you are selected, you will receive an email from PAIR Administration. (Please make sure to check your Junk/Spam folder during this time.)
