Year 4 Call for Proposals Released
1. AIM-AHEAD Consortium Development Program (CDP - Year 4): "Fostering Trustworthy AI Research to Advance Health and Medicine for All Americans (FAIR-MED)"
The Fostering Trustworthy AI Research to Advance Health and Medicine for All Americans (FAIR-MED) program funds multi-disciplinary research that develops and implements Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) to address differences in health outcomes related to cancer, cardiometabolic and behavioral health. Health outcomes refer to the broad range of measurable and perceived changes in the health status of individuals or populations that result from health-related factors, interventions, environments, and non-clinical factors. These outcomes encompass physical, mental, and societal well-being, and reflect how health is experienced, maintained, or improved across time.

2. AIM-AHEAD Clinicians Leading Ingenuity IN Al Quality (CLINAQ) Fellowship Program - Cohort 2
The AIM-AHEAD CLINAQ Fellowship Program is a one-year initiative designed to empower clinicians by integrating Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) expertise directly into clinical practice. This interdisciplinary training seeks to cultivate a workforce skilled in the evaluation, development and responsible application of robust and generalizable AI technologies. Participants will engage in comprehensive virtual and in-person didactic sessions, webinars, and interactive workshops, equipping them to effectively leverage AI innovations within clinical settings. By enhancing clinicians' proficiency in AI/ML, the program aims to advance medical research, improve patient outcomes, and promote the creation of AI models that are scientifically rigorous, broadly applicable and aligned with the needs of all patient populations.

3. AIM-AHEAD Federated Network - Cohort 2
This CFP calls for site participation in AIM-AHEAD federated research programs. The research team from each site is expected to (i) assemble EHR data locally from their institution to be used for AIM-AHEAD research projects; (ii) provide informatics expertise to participate in EHR data harmonization across sites; and (iii) facilitate the analysis of EHR data using AI/ML algorithms developed by the AIM-AHEAD researchers. While all patient-level EHR data remain behind the firewalls of the local site, the research team is expected to facilitate the sharing of aggregated data to support AIM-AHEAD research projects.

4. AIM-AHEAD Hub-Specific Projects - Year 4
The overall goal of the AIM-AHEAD Hub-Specific Projects is to advance community-based participatory research (CBPR), where community organizations and stakeholders are actively engaged in research using AI/ML to address the health challenges, foster trust, and ensure that the research is relevant and impactful. This funding opportunity will support small-scale research projects co-led by leaders of community-based organizations and researchers from academic institutions or private businesses. Approaches that incorporate the interests, concerns, and values of communities have led to improvements in population-level outcomes. Accordingly, applications from collaborative teams proposing novel AI approaches to address diseases and conditions related to lifestyle and/or social factors are strongly encouraged.

5. AIM-AHEAD Research Fellowship - Cohort 4
The AIM-AHEAD Research Fellowship Program provides early-career researchers (graduate students, postdocs, junior faculty, and individuals conducting research outside of an academic institution, within 10 years of completing their highest degree) the opportunity to receive funding and support for research on novel and innovative data science and data-focused research problems; specifically, those focused around health research. The guiding principles for project selection will include the consideration of the applicant’s career goals, the potential for future productivity, and the alignment of the proposed research with the overarching goals of the AIM-AHEAD initiative. The research project needs to focus on AIM-AHEAD North Star (III): Use AI/ML to improve behavioral health, cardiometabolic health and cancer outcomes for all.
